    Website building for absolute beginner!!

    Hi All,

Im an IT Tech at a primary school which currently has a website setup in joomla by the previous person,

Now ive been asked to redesign the website and move away to something easier for non techy people,

The first hurdle is that i know nothing about web design etc as i stayed away from this. whats the best way to go about this?

The website needs to allow users to log in and edit pages only relevant to them that is easy to do.

What would you suggest? Im sure ive forgotten a few requirements the website needs but im sure that can be done after.

Is there any good programs that are already set up ready to go as a website package or is building one from scratch best? (needs to be set up by September 2012

Thanks in advance for your replies

Personally I like Wordpress, assuming your hosting supports a msql database (as you already have joomla)
or why not use the edugeek joomla template?

Sounds to me like Wordpress is the best option if your users find Joombla too difficult.

here's a wordpress site I created last week:-
East Kent Morris Men - EKMM 2011
    Here's their old one! index

With templates and themes a site is easy to build in a few hours
There are also hundreds of plugins you can use for specific functionality

    There's two ways afaik
If you have hosting, do you know how your pages are managed? does it use cpanel? if so its easy to add a wordpress site into your www root, then once the site is complete redirect the domain to that folder
If not you can have a site hosted on wordpress.com and have whomever manages your mx records point your domain dns record to your wordpress page
It may be a "little" more complicated depending on what you want to see as the site address in the browser etc

This site lists lots of CMSes, website baker is another simple CMS I've seen recommended.

Open Source CMS Demos & Information - OpenSourceCMS

If you want to play with any of these WAMP server is a godsend.
