Looking For Some Beta Testers - EduGeek Wordpress Package
After coming away from Joomla I have been playing around with Wordpress, primarily for creating some Primary School websites. At the same time I thought others might find it useful in the same way as the Joomla package was.
The idea around this Wordpress package is to keep it simple and easy to update. So there are some static content pages and links to important content such as School Prospectus and Term Dates. The rest of the site is made up of news posts. There will also be a simple document page that automatically generates the content. This means files can be added / deleted via FTP and the changes to the site are automatic.
Some images of the site are below but I am going to need some beta testers in the next few days to see what they think and make sure the package can be distributed easily like the Joomla Package was.
If you can offer some time then please drop me a PM.
I have been tasked with re-designing our school website, currently Joomla 1.5, as long as I can set Teacher area's and give logins for them to control their own section then I am in.
I'm on a course tomorrow (non ICT related) but am back at the coal face on Thursday.
Well I have uploaded a demo of the site, link in in the post above. Thank you for those that have got in contact to help test. I shall be in touch shortly once I have put together some quick install instructions.
Are you looking to build this as a single theme, with a series of plug-ins, or as a complete installer? Some hosts prefer you to use their own application builder tools to kick start the install of wordpress and then you add the extra stuff on afterwards.

Currently a self contained package. Upload site files, edit wp-config and then import data using sql file. This will then give you what you can see on the demo site.
please could I try it, I'm in the middle of redesigning our school website and am using wordpress to produce a few different ideas to present to the school. Is it ok to change a few things on it though?
What I'm looking for is a preconfigured Wordpress theme for schools with a public section and member sections for teachers, students and classrooms. On my websites I'm using the Wordpress templates from WooThemes. These themes have a framework, they are supported from the WooThemes developer team, and you can also add a plugin for ecommerce features. The developers have all the pieces for a successful school website - but some good programmer has to put them together, so...
WooThemes has a board for proposals and new ideas, and I posted a request for a free Wordpress theme for public schools. It would be great to spread the word and to add your votes. More votes means a good possibility that the WooThemes developers will put such a proposal for a "School theme freebie for use in public schools" into production.
Cripes sadly I haven't mastered getting it uploaded yet but thankfully a trusty Edugeeker is helping me! Bear with me folks I turned 60 recently, annoyingly don't get my bus pass for another 18 months but at least the prescriptions are free now!! Just got to do something to rejuvinate the dwindeling little grey cells.
