I've had a server with Rackforce for a while now... Had some issues but if you're looking for a place where I can offer some pointers on securing your setup and avoiding a few pitfalls then you could do worse..Originally Posted by russdev

Do they virtual servers or just dedicated servers...

Anyone used eukhost.com seem ok..
They do both... the DDS accounts are the VPS (windows or Linux)...Originally Posted by russdev
I started with the DDS-200 and moved up to a DDS-500 a year ago.. No problems in terms of upgrading.. was very simple.

Interesting rack space said don't do vps and even if do if sales people can't get info right not good...

Just to check you did see that I said rackforce and not rackspace didn't you...Originally Posted by russdev

Do you use firewall and backup options?
So are you cpanel or plesk?
What's the bandwidth connection like as the unlimited bandwidth i like idea of?

Lemme see now..Originally Posted by russdev
My current package is basically the same as the DDS600 along with the Fortigate Pack which includes anti-spam, firewall and anti-virus (all off the server), Premium support, and backups.. I also went with CPanel as I'm familiar with it.. The connection is pretty good but one thing I've had to learn the hard way are the limitations and changes required for VPS hosting.
My biggest headache was installing "ConfigServer Security & Firewall" (aka CSF) owing to the fact that the tech bods didn't realise that they'd need to customise the number of IPRules allowed per VPS account. Once that was resolved it was pretty good.. I would recommend you get that installed along with Mod_Security though to reduce the scope of hackers.
In truth I'm planning on moving to a standalone server without VPS on it in the next 6 months because the memory management on them is hinky but that'll be the same on pretty much any VPS.

Memory in what way hinkey...
Thinking of going with following: -
dds200-L (Linux VPS) $ 59.00
OS: Cent OS $ 0.00
Admin Software: cPanel - Unlimited Domains $ 0.00
Ram: 512 MB DDR SDRAM $ 0.00
Storage: 20 GB Partition $ 0.00
Bandwidth: 10 Mbps Shared $ 0.00
Tech Support: Basic Support $ 0.00
Firewall: Fortigate Pack - all three (DDS) $ 10.00
Backup: DDS Backups $ 10.00
Monitoring: No Monitoring $ 0.00
IP Addresses: 2 IPs
Which works out at $ 79.00 with exchange rate as it is makes it about 40 quid a month as pay 20 quid a month already an extra 20 for lot more is ok..

russdev - It is very, very very important and indeed for all other people considering hostign space. It is ILLEGAL to host UK data on foreign servers. This is a privacy requirement and comes under the juresdiction of a few laws.
You can host the site on foreign soil, but the database etc must be on uk soil and must have a secure connection between the two locations if you are doing this!

Incorrect - it all depends on what the data is, and also depends on what the people have signed regarding it being outside the country (else most banks in the UK wouldn't be able to share their data with their world HQ's in the IOM or other countries).Originally Posted by Freedom

Okay, then I retract my previous and state that you must be carefull - as every Internet law is tricky but you don't want anything bad happening - I just stick to UK and EU hosts!
