    SimpleCal: Retrieve and Display a Google Calendar

    I've developed some code for a primary school to retrieve and parse a Google Calendar RSS feed so that it can be easily displayed on a large screen in the staff room.

    SimpleCal.txt (Cut and paste code into a PHP file to run it)

    Here is a demo of the code in action
    Google Calendar Reader with Simple Output

    The first part of the code does the hard work to cache the feed (so the display can be refreshed without upsetting Mr Google with repeated requests for same info) and converts the RSS XML into something a lot more manageable and easy to understand.

    Here is another demo showing a more complex table output but using the same core code
    2 Week Table View

    Please let me know of any bugs/feature requests

    regards
    Simon

    Updated to V1.1 which has a separate cache file for each php file using one. This lets you run multiple variations on same server (a weekly views needs all the current weeks records but a planner view only needs records from today onwards)

    There'll be a prize for guessing what the tartan background really is?

    Made some changes to simple,php in that it now requires a separate config file called config_php.php (in same folder)
    This makes it easier to have mulitple view php files using same feed url (and MUCH easier for me when using the code across several sites)

    simple.php V1.2 and config_url.php
    (Link not workign for some reason
    Code:
    <?
    $config_url = "Please enter your private XML feed from calendar settings page";
    /*
    for example
    $config_url = "https://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/someone%40gmail.com/private-fe9gea464aec20f3aaf6aace51a057789/basic";
    */
    ?>
    )

    I've abandoned work on the planner view and concentrating on the vertical table view.

    I've added auto scrolling using javascript (to cope with schools putting EVERTHING into the diary) and you an see an exampel of this in action here

    regards

    Simon
