Pop up image on click of a box

I've got a form on a webpage which will have 'does this relate to an ICT suite?'

On ticking this box, another select box will appear and list the different suites.

What I'd like to do is then have another select box appear with the listed computers in that suite, and also have an image of the room layout displayed in a 'greybox' type manner with each computer marked on it and then when they click on one, it selects it in the select item (it'd be a multiple select item, so multiple ones would need to be clickable).

Does anyone have an idea how to do this? The problematic part here would be the floating 'on top' window.

Is this the sort of thing you are after?

Yes, but I need the bit where I can have things to click on and then those clicks fed back to the original form. Its that passing of data that's going to be an issue.

Might you do better to lay out your form with HTML elements, then use Javascript to hide the ones you don't want until needed? Do you actually need a pop-up window, could you not just have the appropriate form elements appear as needed, or even simply be on-screen but greyed out if not being used?

The problem is, a diagram layout of a suite will be reasonably large, and would therefore mess up if trying to squeeze it into the form div.
