reading username for form
a bit of background info - i am currently setting up a intranet and one thing i want is to be able to create a submitting form for it helpdesk from the site. but to stop stupid annomous emails i would like to be able to get the username of the person logged in and get it submitting with the form automatically. - the submitting part uses php which wouldn't be able to pull the user i don't think as its server side? although i might be wrong

If the web server is IIS and the browser is IE, then you should be able to use the LOGON_USER environment variable from ASP/PHP scripts. Otherwise, you may struggle. The NTLM auth module for Apache is a bit hit-and-miss.
