After a very disrupted year with eukhost (avoid at all costs), I'm looking for a new host. Currently hosting about 10 sites and email using 10Gb of data but not a huge amount of bandwidth. Need unlimited mysql databases, domains and subdomains, cpanel, etc. Starting to get to the point where a reseller solution may be worth looking at too. Are VPS solutions worth looking at as well? Any suggestions?

Out of interest, what trouble have you had with eUKHost? I have a dedicated server with them. All was fine until a RAID problem, they gave me a new server free for a month to migrate. Hardware fails, its expected, but it took some doing getting it through to them.

26th May 2010, 07:28 PM #6 Frequent downtime (sql, apache services hanging), high server load (probably over-selling too far) and takes me to discover and inform them every time. It can, but not always, take too long (IMHO) to resolve issues. Just had account suspended for malicious script running under my account - this I can understand but... it took 8 hours for them to send logs and another 20 hours to reactivate account. They would just hang up if I phoned, wouldn't reply to emails and disconnected live chat sessions. They wouldn't remove the script for me (said they don't have authorisation to go into clients files - despite having done that many times before at my request to help solve issues) and wouldn't give me any kind of access to remove the script myself. Their response was always, "...we cannot reactivate the account as it is too risky but you can upgrade if you like." They still can't provide access logs to help identify where the breach was either. It just takes far too long to get anything done in my opinion considering the amount of downtime there is.

What was the malicious script?

They wouldn't give me access and now if I look they are unavailable - something lame about rotating daily...useful.

I'll have a look again later.

3rd June 2010, 08:37 AM #11 I use Ariotek - allows me to pay monthly, and I can cancel with a moments notice (not tied in for a year). Can't remember who I was with before, but I changed across because the price was good, and anything had to be better than the service provided by my previous hosting company.
In the couple of years I've been with them I've not had a single problem. Speeds have been as expected, and downtime is not an issue - I think it went offline for the first time last week because they were physically moving their servers to a new datacentre, and of course I was informed of this well in advance.
I've needed to use their support a couple of times as 1and1 just didn't want to release my domains for transfer - never had to ring them, and always managed using the online chat support. You'll speak to one of two guys each time, and you can be sure they'll try everything in their power to make the job a good one.

3rd June 2010, 09:46 AM #12 HostGator? They're pretty much the leaders in hosting, and relatively cheap too. Wouldn't touch them for a VPS/Dedicated, but for shared hosting they are probably your best bet. The baby plan would do you well, I suspect.

Well... one of. Never had any problems come back from my clients who use them (I write the code, they buy the hosting).

Leaders of overselling hosting, yes.
