Currently looking at setting up new school website. Been looking into using 123-reg or 1&1 for hosting.
It now turns out that EMBC is currently in control of our domain. Has anyone used them to host? Can't find out how much they are, or what they offer.
Cheers,
Neil

12th October 2009, 08:22 AM #2 Which school you at mate?
I've used EMBC many times and if you are using their internet providing service then it costs you nothing. It's Microsoft based hosting so you can use the edugeek joomla package!!!
If you've got any other questions or want something a little more in depth (migration apparantly went t*ts up yesterday so roaming profiles have gone awol, arghhhh) then give me a pm mate

12th October 2009, 08:53 AM #3 Oh and from past experience 1&1 are a terrible/horrible company for billing. Absolute nightmare at moving domains, cancelling accounts, auto-billing for things you cancelled (or thought you had).
If you do move away from the free EMBC then perhaps take a look at UK2. Have been good to me the past couple of years.

13th October 2009, 10:57 AM #4 EMBC setup the hosting for me yesterday. Should be accessable at www.wrenspinney.northants.sch.uk, but I keep seeing a 401 error. Hopefully they can sort this out for me, as I'm stumped...

If I visit the page it asks me for credentials to log in.

13th October 2009, 11:07 AM #6 Same for me Sparkeh,
I have to admit setting up a site with EMBC is a bit of a pain in the rear but once you've skipped past the rediculous amount of permission issues its pretty damn good,
St Mary's CEVA Primary School - Home (which i no longer support FYI)
Welcome To Rushton Primary School
Both have worked fine since getting through the intial setup

13th October 2009, 11:29 AM #8 Waiting for them to get back to me (3hrs later). Any ideas what they need to do? What I find interesting is if I go to https://www.wrenspinney.northants.sch.uk I can see a page that's not mine!

13th October 2009, 12:24 PM #9 Using EMBC hosting here and it's fine, although our website is still hidden and under development right now. I don't expect a huge load so it shouldn't crumble.
