Ok, I'm struggling on this one. RM want some silly amount of money to provide DNS and hosting for our .sch.uk domain, so I'm trying to find someone who'll do it more sensibly.
I need:
- one zone of DNS, including an MX record or two
- a web redirect (not a CNAME) to the domain we actually use
Any ideas?

2nd June 2009, 11:03 AM #3 Do you mind me asking how much you pay? I don't need any of the extras, just DNS at a minimum. Sales don't seem to know what a .sch.uk is
Edit: it's ok, they remembered.

2nd June 2009, 11:24 AM #4 On a side point, we have a old long standing .sch.uk and we are thinking of getting DNS hosting too but who would I call to get the nameserver addresses changed?
There are a few dns only hosts out there such as DNS Management: Service Value Bundles - easyDNS™ or www.twisted4life.com etc that should have no problems hosting the dns entries but you may need to contact them to get them to add the .sch.uk as its a non standard tld but there is no reason they cant host it.

Whoever the domain is tagged to at the moment, whois shows this.
Yep, I'm investigating that too.

I was speaking to them about this only yesterday, how spooky. They said to me: if you don't already have access details for their management tool thingy, fax them from the head with contact details inc. an email address of somebody responsible, and they will send them a password. Then you can change nameservers directly.

If it's any help, my .sch.uk is hosted on 1and1 as an external domain. I can't recall now exactly what hoops I had to jump through, but I recall 1and1 exerting pressure to just insert a DNS record to redirect to 1and1. I then manage all subdomains and DNS with 1and1. Amusingly, I still have my MX records set to RM's mail servers
It costs us £14.99 a month to host there, on a business pro account with loads of webspace (we need it!), but if you only need a little webspace and DNS, then you can get an account for £1.99 a month, with 5 subdomains included.
I've found their service pretty good, and haven't suffered any loss of service at all which has got to be a plus point!
