Intranet Search Facility
Is there a way of adding a search box on an Intranet page that will enable people to search for files saved on a shared area? I've managed to put an asp script in place that finds html files within the Intranet itself, but want to be able to find Word and other Office documents saved on a mapped drive.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Failing that, keep your documents on Sharepoint?

Implementing Windows Desktop Search with ASP.NET
Freely downloadable example code too.

21st January 2009, 02:32 PM #6 Have you looked at Microsoft Search Server
The Express product is free (assuming you have Windows server) and will search any web site it can crawl, any file space to which it has access (ie you need to give it a username and password)
It's pretty easy to setup (but put it on a dedicated web server; it uses the default web site so will mess up anything you might have had there ...)
It's based on the Sharepoint search technology which may or may not be a good thing. The only bad thing I know about it is that Gartner recommend it :-)
