Assuming you have a LAMP box setup already, yes its no hassle. Simply create the DB, DB User, copy the files to the right place and run the setup.

Some of the more advanced stuff is fiddly like getting it to authenticate to AD and doing 2 week rotating timetables though.

I've just installed this myself on an SuSE box.
Couldn't have been easier, took less than 30 mins to fully setup including AD authentication.

The included install guide is pretty thorough and the config file is fully commented so I can't see you'd have any trouble.

Some things don't work right on IIS/Windows. MRBS does but web servers tend to have more and more different webapps loaded on over time. If your not using a LAMP box you find ones you 'need' but don't work sooner or later.

Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

    Hello all,

I am trying to get MRBS installed using IIS with AD authentication.

I am having difficulty in getting the LDAP_Auth to bind and search the AD. if i remember (its about 5 months since i last looked at it) the error was that it could not bind to the AD

I have tried alternative LDAP search scripts to test my default search bases and stuff but got to an error saying could not search your AD.

I have used the default MRBS installation 1.2.3 with no cvs updates. I read on the MRBS board that there was a problem with the original LDAP_auth file. Is this true?

The problem is i have not done any PHP before and this is my first project. I don't get the time to sit and learn programming as much as i would like.

Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

I think this'd be the best place to append this.

I've got to install MRBS on a LAMP server next week and set it up to work as a resource booking system as opposed to a room booking system (i've seen an example and i liked it). The other alternative is

http://booking-dev.centralmanclc.com/ but that never wants to work on my test server.

Anyway. How do you all set it up to handle all the staff can log on and book. LDAP auth? Does that work over the internet from behind an ISA server. The idea is that the staff can book resources from home too.

Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

If the server hosting MRBS is on the same network as your DCs, you shouldn't have a prob with LDAP authentication.

If you have your server in a DMZ or outside your network, it may prove eassier to export a list of users from AD and import them into MRBS.

There is a thread on Edugeek that Geoff posted in with the samba/winbind authentication code for MRBS.

No, I use external auth via the squid helper for winbind.

Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

One of my summer projects is to get MRBS up and running
As I had a bit of time on my hands I thought I would try using Linux to host the site
It is all very new for me so I have been following various guides around the 'net.
I used Ubuntu Feisty Fawn in a LAMP setup and then followed the MRBS instructions, pretty much leaving everything set to the defaults.
However, when i access the mrbs site I get
Warning: mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Access denied for user 'mrbs'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /var/www/mrbs/mysql.inc on line 224
Fatal Error: Failed to connect to database
Any clues what I need to do?
The one part of the MRBS Install guide I didn't follow was that I put the contents of the MRBS web folder into /var/www/mrbs because I didn't have a /var/lib/apache/htdocs folder.
Once I put it all togoether I am hoping to write a complete guide (maybe on the wiki) for other noobs like me.
