    Check that your mysql user has the right permissions on the mrbs database.

    If you're unfamiliar with the commands for mysql then you could use phpmyadmin for a web based admin front end or what i use which is MySQL administrator http://www.mysql.com/products/tools/administrator/

    are you sure you have LAMP setup, as that tripped me up with UBUNTU, you can't just select it at setup and hit next, you have to hit space when it is highlighted to actually select it?

    try restarting apache like so

    sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

    Well if he's getting the error message in the web browser i'd assume he's got it setup.

    Also check wether mysql is started in the same way but using mysql intead of the apache2 bit.

    just putting in something from experience - apologies.

    the other thing to check is permissions on the folders the site and database are stored in.

    Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

    Thanks for the quick response
    I restarted apache2 and mySql and then the server but none of that made a difference. I'm using Webmin 1.360 to manage apache and MySql but I haven't got a clue how to follow joedetic's advice
    Check that your mysql user has the right permissions on the mrbs database.
    also when I look at the permissions for the mrbs web folder it says "you are not the owner so you can't change these permissions" the owner is root. :?
    Please remember, this is all new to me - pretend you are talking to a teacher.
    Thanks again.

    Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

    log in as root then.....

    you will have set up a root password on setup

    (note: when you see the "sudo" command in a set of instructions, that runs the command as if you were root).

    I'd suggest having a look at some of the online tutorials in setting up a linux webserver, if you ask us for solutions to every problem you'll not really learn what the commands are doing....

    theres a good bit about permissions here http://www.elated.com/articles/under...g-permissions/

    Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

    That is how to check permissions on a folder...but for the actual mysql permissions on the database you need to use the commands or phpmyadmin or something like that.

    sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin (should work i think) and then go to http://serveraddress/phpmyadmin and then select the database and then go to privilages and make sure that your user that you're using has got full permissions on the DB (or at least the necessary ones...i'm lazy so i just put in full).

    Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

    Thanks for the link domino, I managed to change permissions on the mrbs database and web folders so everyone could do anything.
    It was still giving the same error.
    I then configured mysql user and database permissions to allow anonymous users to do everything
    I then changed the mrbs config.inc.php file to
    # Database login user name:
    $db_login = "";
    # Database login password:
    $db_password = '';

    It is now working. I guess this is highly unsecure, i might try tightening it up in the future

    Re: MRBS - Easy to install?

    Yes, your database is configured very insecurely. I would recommend you undo the "anonymouse users everything" permisson, and should atleast run this MySQL query:

    Code:
    GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON mrbs_DB.* to 'mrbsuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'mrbspassword';
    ... and then change your MRBS configuration accordingly.

    MRBS

    Hi,
    Just reading some old forums on this software. A question I have in my evaluation if someone might be able to answer.

    Is it possible to have MRBS manage permanent bookings (for a whole year) in two week blocks(A and B weeks). Easy enough. Some of our terms are 9 weeks, others 10 and 11. We always return on an A week after a break. Some mid term breaks are 2 weeks and others 3.

    So with MRBS some return dates are shown as B weeks in MRBS. I guess I am after a way to bulk maintain all permanent bookings in MRBS so that the correct week shows on return from a break. Hope that made sense.

    I would recommend phpscheduleit over MRBS. I've used both and imho phpscheduleit has a 'bnetter' interface. It can be AD integrated as well.

    Hi

    Its not a good idea using a windows xp machine you can only have up to 10 connections its one of the limitations of xp.
