Just been asked to do a school website, but they want it hosted externally, but may (in the future) want kids to be able to log in.
So is there any secure, easy way to get joomla to read ldap when the two are not on the same network (safe being the most important factor).
Not actually started anything yet so I'm just after ideas as the best way to do it.
Cheers
Mike

This is the only one I know of. Out of interest what will they need to log on for? There are plenty of other community options for joomla, we're are currently looking at setting up logons for departments. We're going to use Community Builder. Just to throw another suggestion in there.

I'm not too sure what the use will be yet, it was just a question thrown in, will the kids be able to log in.
I'm guessing it might be for something like retrieving homework or things like that, but I'm yet to have a meeting with the head to find out the exact requirements.
I will looking into other options though, thanks for that

If Joomla can read LDAP normally, would the easiest thing be to run another LDAP server on your external host, where your web server can see it just fine, and have your internal LDAP server periodically synchronise its data with the external one?

can you not host the website in the school on a sep server, have web address point to it. that way you save money on hosting, pluss you can tie it in to with ldap?
