    Extranet access using web folders

We provide students access to their school documents via an extranet using Microsoft Web Folders.

This works well, but a few people have complained that when they click on the hyperlink to open their documents, is opens the "My Documents" folder on their local computer instead.

Any ideas what could cause this and how to fix it?

We had the same thing happen to us. I searched and searched, but couldn't find anything. In the end the only way me and Paul found to get around it was to Map a drive in My Network Places on their home computer.

Re: Extranet access using web folders

This facility of being able to access home/shared folders remotely seems to be a major gap in the market which I'm suprised no one has taken advantage of.

Sure - there's ranger outpost which we use, but it's a bit pants isn't it?

Surely there must be an easier way..

IE7's changes to the default security zone settings can foul this up. As can 3rd party antispyware/antivirus and firewall software.

Re: Extranet access using web folders

I had this problem on ours. The only solution I found (which seems to work everytime I've tried) is to open the WebDAV page in a frameset rather than a new window. I think this is related to IE7, as it never used to be a problem.
