VLE tender documentation
I find myself in a tricky situation - I have to prepare a tender document for a VLE.
We are a large secondary school which is opting to buy an off the shelf VLE which is then going to be tailored to our needs.
However although we know who we want to develop the VLE we have to send an official tender out.
I was asking for help in this documentation and thought if anyone had already gone through the same process whether they could share there thoughts / document ;)

Thirst thing is it has to comply with integration into your MIS using SIF!
Dont take their word for it contact your MIS provider and ask if they have talked with them also. Many havnt and assume they can do it.
Next take a look at whats out there and pick what bits you want.
Rough guide would be.
Searchable Portfolios for graded work etc..
Access to stored files resources / students / staff / parents
MIS integration the deadline is 2010 so people need to jump on this now!
part of MIS integration s access to attendance data / marking / attainment etc...
then look at if you want hosted service or a onsite hosting!
You will probably find that most if not all will not be able to provid MIS integration so you will need to discuss whith each what they are doing to get this!!!! see note above about cross checking....

If you use the Becta Learning Platform framework you don't have to tender (unless you are going for a major clustering of schools).
The framework itself is pretty ok to use as a base for tenders, but if you are looking for a particular solution you can mention specific functionality or centre eLearning principles that are better presented via particular VLE solutions (linear, course based learning environment, based on a sustainable platform allowing for enhancements derived from Open Source communities ... or ... an extensible platform based on a leading portal with extensive links to client based applications surrounding a full suite of commercially supported products.)
