Moodle Problems - Can i have a bit of help please

    Hi

We are trying to host moodle our selves internally.

    http://84.12.68.108/moodle

Internally the website will display correctly with the correct interface and pictures but as soon as someone tries to view the webpage out of school, ie, via the above link the page displays but not correctly.

The picture is how the webpage should be displayed.

If someone could let me know on how the web page is been viewed now and if it doesnt look like the pic below then could someone let me know how to solve it

    Thanks

Moodle thinks its installed on http://muddle.shs.com and tries to get the graphics from there.

    muddle.shs.com doesn't resolve for me.

So it looks like a DNS problem.

EDIT just editted my host file and added your ip address in as muddle.shs.com and it works!

Your DNS name 'muddle.shs.com' doesn't appear to exist.

Moodle will have this DNS name in it's settings - so in your school it'll work fine but as we can't resolve the name, all we get is a mess.

If you right click over one of the pictures that isn't showing, and go to properties, you'll get the server address shown in the address link. You're not getting any style sheets or images.

You need to talk to your broadband provider or consortium and have your server name DNS linked to your IP.

    I hope that's not jibberish.

I believe getting Moodle to work with different domain names and URLs isn't straight forward. I'd recommend configuring moodle for the externally-accessible domain (eg. moodle.school.lea.sch.uk) and also set up that hostname internally as an alias for it's interal IP. Then everyone inside and outside of the school access it via its full hostname.

and in what way did it work?

You must have given moodle the muddle.shs.com name when you installed it. Does that work on site?

Are you using a local ip for it?

If you alter the value set for '$CFG->wwwroot' in config.php, you can let moodle know what domain name its supposed to be using.

Do you own the shs.com domain? If not thats your problem. I quick fix would be to change the '$CFG->wwwroot' value to 84.12.68.108/moodle. Not knowing how you have this setup could break it. You would then have to access it by the ip address.

    Code:
Do you own the shs.com domain?
doesn't look like it. It's some sort of Medical Site.
