18th March 2012, 07:10 PM #1 [FROG] Launch executable from a hyperlink
I've been asked to create a link to launch SIMS on the Frog dashboard. This is fine - normally I would type "file://C:\Program Files\SIMS.net\SIMS\Pulsar.exe" but FROG always adds HTTP:// at the start of the URL, resulting in this not working.
Can anyone think of a way to do this, or maybe a script that the hyperlink could point to, to achieve this?
Thanks

18th March 2012, 07:29 PM #2 Just put
C:\Program Files\SIMS.net\SIMS\Pulsar.exe
into notepad, save it as sims.cmd, upload it somewhere, then link to that.
It does seem a pretty strange way to start a locally installed program. Lot's of opportunity for this to clash with security / group policy restrictions and the link will be available even when SIMS isn't, so people could get confused and think they have remote access to it. I think whoever came up with the idea needs to have another think about it.

18th March 2012, 07:31 PM #3 I agree that this is not a good way - and have already said this. The option I came back with was to use SIMS learning gateway but I've been told that this is not an acceptable solution. I'll give the CMD a shot and see what happens. Thanks!

Remember you need to have Simsload run first otherwise you will see problems after upgrades (maybe different with solus 3)

19th March 2012, 07:26 AM #5 I was asked to provide a similar shortcut to SIMS from sharepoint a few years ago. If the suggested CMD solution doesn't work, then I suggest LaunchinIE
