Using Moodle for Time Constrained Assignments

Has anyone achieved this at all? If so could you give me some advice as to how I would set this up?

Hi there. What do you mean by time constrained? You mean they only have say half an hour in which to do it? You could set an essay type question in a quiz which will show the clock ticking as they do the work - what sort of assignments was it and are you using 1.9 or 2?

Sorry more like an assignment under limited conditions no option to edit outside of the lesson?

no automatic way comes to mind but you can for instance manually hide the eye of the assignment out of lesson time or again if you use the Quiz then you can specify an IP address so they can't access it at home
