SCORM Package problem in IE
We currently have uploaded several Edexcel Active Teach SCORM packages to our VLE (Fronter) and at first everything looks fine in that the Scorm packages open and the controls seem to work. That is until anyone clicks on a resource such as a Word or Excel linked document such as a worksheet. What seems to happen is that a new web page tries to open and then almost like pop ups are disabled the page closes. Now I have tried this both at home and within school and have ensured that at home pop ups are enabled. But the problem still occurs. Having then tried the package in another browser such as Firefox all works as advertised with a selected worksheet opening a window to ask if the file should be saved or opened.
This problem is not specific to one package but does seem to be an IE problem, unfortunately at school we dont have Firefox available as a browser for students so would like to get this working with IE if possible.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

It could be that switching compatibility mode on may make the difference, thats if you are using IE 9.

Try this.
Go to Internet Options -> Security tab -> custom level...
Scroll down until you find the setting " Automatic prompting for file downloads". Enable this and you should be able to download your files.

Hi Face-man,
I don't think it's the same problem.
The OP is having problems opening single files (word and Excel), which have to be downloaded to a PC so that they can open. When they click on these files in FireFox, they get a dialog box that asks them if they want to save the file.
This setting isn't enabled in IE so the browser tries to open the file but other security settings kick in and close the file.
The symptoms of this are similar to a blocked pop-up.
If this was a problem with an outdated backend then I guess that they would have a the same problem when using FireFox?
