Temporary free solution for document sharing

So, we may have a gap of a few months where we don't have a VLE at our school.

I'm looking for a solution whereby teachers can easily upload past papers, revision materials etc for students to access. Will obviously need to be password protected (would be easier if students could share the same login though, rather than individual logins).

    Any suggestions?

Have you looked at google apps for education. Can be used as a VLE as it has Google Sites, Google Docs and has domain integration / control. Oh and its free for schools

could just setup a network share and use something along the lines of Adito vpn/openvpn als (same thing!) to connect users to the share through ssl. We use it here for kids to have remote access to my docs/student shared area etc. Is ad intergrated so same login as normal computers.

Yep another vote for Sharepoint either what was mentioned above or Sharepoint WSS 3.0 will do the job.

I agree. WSS 3 Sharepoint would be a good choice and you will get the authentication you need and permissions set on groups and folders.
