30th September 2009, 06:20 PM #1 Frog & Serco Facility
Any one know if frog can intergrate/import data from Secro Facility
We have SIMS for the finance
And Secro Facility for the student data
At the moment we are running Serco's version of the VLE, which I dont think is very good, plus looks horrid and not many features like Frog
Is this possible to import/intergrate to get the timetables, attendance, etc to Frog VLE
Thanks in advance

30th September 2009, 07:43 PM #2 Not too sure about that, we have Frog and as yet they are still to sort out an automatic way to update pupil info on Frog from Sims. We are only in a pilot stage at the moment so the data was put on from a csv file. Seems that are in discussion as to the security of transfering pupil data.

30th September 2009, 09:51 PM #3 We've recently had a presentation by Frog and support for Serco was mentioned. We were even shown a few live websites of schools running Frog and Serco that the representative had access to.
While there are one or two sections of Frog that don't receive realtime updates from Serco, the support certainly seems to be there.

I believe Serco does work with Frog although I have no experience with it as we are a SIMS school.
Frog does automatically update from SIMS using the SIMS extractor tool. If it's not working for you perhaps try taking a look in the Frog community pages (click on 'help' from the toolkit). The download file and instructions are in there.

We use Serco CMIS (facility) with frog..
And have no issues atall.... Users, timetables, teaching groups, yeargroup data etc... all seemlessly transmitted to frog
Its a daily process at the moment, but we are expecting a live link soon to go with the forthcoming parent portal

6th October 2009, 09:37 PM #6 ok thanks for the info people
Only people im thinkingwe would have, if we was to get this is that we have two networks, one for the admin/finince side and one for the students, we have switches that can configure the port to eithier admin or the student network, but how could both network communcate?
would the frog server have to go on the admin network? and has its on the network were our secro server is, it can get to the data. So to get the site on the student network, im gussing that it work over the intenet, which means the student can get it on their network and anywhere?
Im shocked at their prices
£22,350 Express Build
£26,300 Standard Build
This is whatout any addons!!!!

Im not sure I understand your question..
But in essence, the frogserver has 3 network interface cards... one for the "admin" network, one for the "student" network, and one for the "internet" network... so you can connect across all of it...
Only limiatation is support for only one active direcotry... you can still link to files on other "domains" so accessing your MIS database on the admin network, and your student resources on the student network is not an issue!

Yes, its a big spend for year 1.... but the following years are LESS and it compares favourably cost wise to other products if you do a cost comparison for say a 10 year period....

6th October 2009, 09:51 PM #10 Yer thats very true
Its annoying I dont know how much the school paid for the Secro Skillspace VLE we have at the moment, I suppose it could have been worse than that
Having a server at the school would be better has we can have bigger files on the school (Think we can only have 10MB Files atm)

frog server
It's a linux server. Think ours came with 1TB of storage.
We're still in early days but the serco data is carried across seemlessly. Ours is set to update automatically early every morning and does so without fail and with ni human intervention. The live data is only available with sims at moment but think the upgrade their running this weekend will change that...

and what is wrong with linux.... especially since in most cases you won't even deal with the system and only the web interface for the VLE

The box is a Dell server and comes with a UPS. I believe we have 3tb.
Yes its a linux OS running an apache web server... you have NO access to the OS atall.... Frog have remote access to that side of things so you should never ever have to go into the OS...
It works seemlesly with a windows domain...
I think any concerns you have about this side of things are worth ignoring!!
What did you think of skillspace? We had a demo version of it and thought it was shockingly awful!
