Reporting pupil progress.... every 3 weeks
Hi all,
Well this is where I normally end up when I come up blank..
I have a school who is running an interesting project and they are monitoring their student pretty tightly and feed back to parents on progress on a 3 week cycle.
At present this is all done through a single excel workbook:
the 1st sheet has all the data and the following 130 sheet represent each pupil and the data is pulled into place from sheet 1.
these sheets are then printed off and sent home every 3 weeks.
what the school idealy want to do is the have this data available online behind a secure login for each parent.
i have banged my head against the wall a few times and cant think of an obvious way to do this... does anyone have any ideas or is this going to be a custom programmed solution?
thanks
andy

Try Insight from TASC Software, links into your MIS to give parental access to attendance and behaviour data

the parental engagement side of things is fine and our BSF scheme will take care of this. however, this sort of micro reporting is well out of scope for that and they need it implimenting well in advance of the BSF programme.
this info is not stored in SIMS so access to sims would not help

We're working on a web-based system (named Arc) which allows teachers to take registers online and also allows parents / pupils (depending on access control settings) to see the data live. Arc also contains a report-writing section and a markbook (all parental accessible if you want). It is built as a set of components for Joomla, and we're looking at rolling out a trial version to a few schools next month.
It sounds like you may be interested in this once it's ready for general release. I'll post some sort of announcement when we're ready to release, but if you are interested in the meantime feel free to PM me for more details.

You can write some PHP scripts which would extract the data from Excel (i.e. using Excel as a database) and then parse the data into a usable format...
This may get you started:
Reading and Writing Spreadsheets with PHP
