    SIMS Timetables & Moodle

Yes I know there are loods of threads on here about this but I thought'd be easier to start a fresh one for this..

I am looking into the possibility of linking our Moodle to SIMS to pull the timetables across into Moodle.

I read that you need to sync SIMS with AD (SIMS2AD) but from lokoing at the code I am worried that this is gonig to overwrite our existing accounts

HOW do I go about only getting the necessary info into the correct places?

I haven't gone all the way through it, but I think it will just be a case of re-doing parts of the script so that it modifies user accounts instead of creating them. Of course you will need to do some matching up of names so this could prove more difficult than the intended use of the script.

Yeah I know.. i'm thinking it may be better to just consign this idea to the "Would Be Nice But..." pile...

Although if its relying upon the pupils UPN then I may be able to export this with a report, then use AD Modify or similar to import the UP to the employeeID field in AD..

Depends what other fields are needed I guess..

If from what I understand (limited)

Ideally you want to export from SIMS into a "database", and export from AD into a "database" then allow the user to check that they will be matched up correctly. Once it's done then your laughing, if you extend your ad scheme you could add on a UPN field.

If you get a duplicate you would want a nice flag so you have to proactivally manually transfer the data etc rather then wait until they find out.

I think, at the moment, your really need a dev AD the merge the two AD together. Just remember to take passwords from the old domain and keep the same format.

The SIMS2AD scripts are comprehensive, but the ultimate goal is that you have UPN's in the AD so that SIMS,AD and Moodle can use as reference, how you achieve this is upto you. The advantage of the script that penfold_99 published is that you can have SIMS autocreate accounts without any expensive SIMS addons, and have sims enable/disable accounts etc.
As long as the UPN's are in the correct part of AD (the EmployeeID field) and the SIMS/Moodle integration is working, then the timetable module should work as well.

    Ok Sit Rep...

I have created the SIMS/Moodle Views on the SIMS database
I have exportded the UPNs from SIMS and painstakingly added them to AD's employmentID field
I have added the SIMS Timetable mod to moodle (and edited link to point to Moodle instead of root web folder!
Displayed the mod - got a kid to login in (Moodle finds the UPN - they click "My Timetable - a new page appears but only with the Moodle header the rest of the page is blank..

    Guessing i've missed something somewhere

Is that on the MS SQL View or the VBS File?

I now get a "blank" timetable with 1,2,REG... down the side but no info (copied a pupils UPN into a test account)

Will try the above later on..

Is your school on a 1 week time table or 2 week time table?
