Is that the address you use to access the site internally, if not have you setup AAM?
I love the calendar in school it looks great but when parents view(or anyone outside) it does not see for yourself at
any ideas as i am getting a lot of stick about it as its the public face of the school

AAM should sort it.
Otherwise you could set the CalendarColourCoderWebPart property "Mapping List Url" to use the internal url to the category to colour mapping list.
This will be something along the lines of
where if you view the list within SharePoint the url in the address is
