We have published out Sharepoint site with a public name of https://portal.ctc.ac.uk/ which we can access with no problem. We can access documents and files uploaded on "Document Libraries" with no problems. The path would be as an example https://portal.ctc.ac.uk/Dept/IT/tes...20INTERNET.pdf
But when we create folders within the document libary the address/path of that folder reverts to the internal adress eg http://moss.ctc.ac.uk:10000/Dept/IT/test/........ So we cannot access that folder outside the college.
We have just gone live with our site, spent an inset day training tutors, they have all created their own folders in departmant document libraries and of course nobody can access them .
It has not gone down well!!
I am at a loss, any help would be much appreciated.

Have you programmed your external name in the SharePoints Alternative Access Mappings details?
John is right - make sure that you alternative accessing mapping correct and https://portal.ctc.ac.uk/ is your default site.
This is not a reply to the linking of your sharepoint docs library to home folders but a suggestion on what I think is a better way to use sharepoint libraries.
Most people use folders and have folders in folders and lose things!
Sharepoint is primarily a content management system. In document libraries you can store everything in one big list but if you create columns for your documents and make sure that when staff upload they have to fill these fields out, you can then create views.
Meta tagging at its simplest. No more folder within a folder.
If you have compulsory fields when you upload then this stops you having lots of unnamed docs. It forces people to store properly.
I would also suggest you get your school or college to adopt a document reference system if you have not already. It pays dividends for searching and QA.

Good Points there N.O. But for ours one step at a time, folderings magical to themand the folders are searchable so thats fine but were very logical. Most departments do it year group in the main library, then sub-folder term by term or unit by unit then topic by topic so you can imedialtly find everything related to unit 1 french for Year 9
many thanks for the suggestions ,I did try to correct things in the alternate mappings area on Friday afternoon but it has made no difference to the problem. The problem occurs purely when we create a new folder or document. When we upload existing documents they upload to the right place ie http:/portal.... All new folders and docs go to the internal address EduGeek.net.... I will perservere on Monday though.

Have you rebooted the server since doing the mapping?

No! Good Point, will do so now.
Judy

Shouldn't need to do a reboot, just a restart of IIS should do it.
If your restarting a sharepoint server its good practise to use iisreset /noforce

I always find a full on reboot seems to work better for some reason, although the IIS Reset should do it but I guess its just a belt and braces measure
