Has anybody have a working moodle at a primary school, I have been asked to evaluate possible VLE's for a primary school.
Any thoughts on Moodle, or any others for primarys?

You might want to check if the school already has access to or is expected to take on board a VLE provided by the LEA. That would avoid you wasting time if there's a fait accompli in the wings.

I administer a couple of Moodles (and use one for year 5/6 ICT lessons).
I've found it fairlly user (primary pupil) and teacher hostile. More so for the teachers
Obvioulsy its free (as in £cost) and also CLEO RBC host it for us so there's no technical effort overhead for me.
It does work and ICT litterate teachers can make good use of it.
Other things to consider are
1. Can all pupils be on a computer at once or do you work in pairs (we do).
This can cause considerable organisational issues with pupils doing work in school.
2. How many pupils don't have access to a broadband enabled computer at home - if this is high - then not much point in putting effort into online homework unless very proactive in enabling disadvantaged to have extra access in school (after school club) or making sure assignments can be completed by pen/pencil

Also be aware that your LEAs 'Computers for Pupils' project might roll by and solve this problem for you (in theory). I suggest you contact them and ask about it.How many pupils don't have access to a broadband enabled computer at home - if this is high - then not much point in putting effort into online homework unless very proactive in enabling disadvantaged to have extra access in school (after school club) or making sure assignments can be completed by pen/pencil
