Bit ironic this given my other post but somehow my other half (teacher - yes, I know, sleeping with the enemy! :P) sensed I was on the topic and called to ask if I could help her get something organised for her department.
She's currently covering a department of one for Business Studies, Economics, etc... and spotted a colleague (in another department) has been using WordPress to start sharing work, news and even homework via a Blog.
Now, mindful of the other discussion I started, I'm wondering if WordPress is necessarily the best approach for this. I checked her school details and found they are using a VLE called e-sy which means nothing to me and I assume is a commercial VLE offering... However for all that it doesn't appear that the school are even promoting it, or if they are, they're doing a bit of a cr*p job...
So, I figure I can provide her with something myself on my dedi server space... and before you ask, this is for her, not for school so I get my reward in a less stressed other half
Anyhoo.. Anyone in the know got any suggestions on whether Moodle or something else would be a better option to Word Press?

Moodle all the way. Open source, many users, many people to help. The moodle forums are great too

Not forgetting that Moodle can be customised with many many themes that are available. I do agree, the default isnt too pretty.
