Had an emailed press release forwarded from my head,
"Bristol gains another "first" as Northgate launches unique managed learning platform
Northgate Education, a leading UK provider of ICT managed services and solutions to the education sector, today launches its innovative, all-inclusive managed learning environment in Bristol, as Gordon Brown and Ed Balls attend an event to celebrate the opening of the first new school to be completed under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme."
Does anyone in the area know which this MLE is? Is it something new or an established MLE? I thought they were in partnership with Fronter.

I did see the news tonight which followed Browns visit, Gordon was talking about the 'new ways to tackle' internet 'pornography' and 'violence' -- I guess he's visited too many managed service schools ! All he needs to do is read edugeek to find the best methods !

I'm sure that fronter is an element of this but their MLE is far more than the VLE provided by fronter. Interestingliy this is hinted at on http://www.northgate-is.com/press_ce...hp?item_id=774
with the last point being "6. Northgate’s MLE is capable of integrating with a wide range of VLE products.".
On fronter the LGFL prefered solution. is still being hosted from oslo rather than the core of the network probably due to money. however they say that it is connected via super janets 10gig pipe to norway and has protected bandwidth within that. I'd be interested if anybody has any downsides/upsides that could crop up with this arrangement.

thanks for all the help chaps. I have emailed Northgate on this, but it would be interesting to gather information from those on the ground.
Interestingly, when I did a Google on "MLE Northgate Bristol Schools?" on Thursday this page came top. The rest were all press releases from the day

Northgate have produced their own MLE which includes Fronter. It basically draws on SIMS for its database.
There are some major setup problems at the moment which will hopefully be resolved soon as there will be some disgruntled schools in Bristol otherwise.

any chance you can share with us the set up problems experienced - hardware, software or infrastructure ? If software do they relate to Northgate or Fronter ?
