Nice. I hadn't found, or indeed heard of that one. I do notice that it has not been updated since 2009, but considering many packages I looked at (and not included) had not been updated for quite a while longer than that I shall include it in the next revision of the article sometime next year. If anyone else knows of any decent free art packages that I have not included please feel free to post them up here. No limited trial/nag-ware or unmaintained ones please.

Theres also Seashore. When looking at software for the mac, I do tend to look for native software that doesn't use X11. There was a Native version of GIMP for OS X under development. It was quite buggy for a while and I haven't been back since to check on it's progress.

Thnak you all, keep 'em coming.

Paintbrush is another good free graphics app for the Mac. As you can see from the screenshot below, it is quite similar to Microsoft Paint.

Have to say, huge thanks to @Dos_Box for this thread - I'd not heard of a lot of those. Will look in more detail at them, but I'd be surprised if at least one wasn't put in use in both our secondary + primary schools
Yes, thanks for this article. Really useful.

..and more thanks from me![]()

Don't forget the excellent SumoPaint. This is like Photoshop 6 through a browser. No installation required.

I had contemplated including Sumo Paint, however as you canot use it without an internet connection I felt that should not be included, as many reading this artical will come from countries where net connections are either limited, or almost non-existant and as such makes it a restrictive package only available to those lucky enough to enjoy broadband conections.

I love GIMP but have to change it as it doesn't play nice with my tablet. Given the tablet is a fairly recent Wacom that isn't a good thing.![]()
and now for something completely different .....Psykopaint - Create and paint amazing art from photos
