Wyse bought by Dell
For those of us involved in the thin client business this is a big story.
Dell have tried unsuccessfully to launch their own thin client several times, and now, it seems, have taken a
different approach to get a foothold in the thin client market.
This is a very different "story" to HP buying Neoware a few years back, Neoware had essentially gone bust and HP picked them up
for a song.
Wyse are/were a strong company and, although the figures aren't publicised - there are reports in the press of Dell
paying a billion dollars to Wyse's Taiwanese owners...
Another good product going to go down the drain!
I've always considered wyse something of an industry standard, and it's going to be an interesting time to see what Dell does with this.
If it is anything like what they did to poor Alienware.....

Dell are definitely trying to position themselves as an end-to-end solutions provider. With their recent purchases (Force10, AppAsure, Sonicwall and now Wyse) you can see their thinking - trying to compete head on with HP/IBM etc. Will be interesting to see who they're eyeing up next as only things lacking in their stack now is really the software side. They already partner with Microsoft/VMWare/Citrix but will they try and get their own hypervisor (ala EMC) and purchase someone like Red Hat?
It looks like I posted it in the wrong forum. I don't think anyone visits IT News. ;)
