If this isn't the right place to post this, then my apologies. I have a friend who's a teacher/SMT in Thailand and the school has a thin client set up with 20 terminals, and as he puts it,
"The problem isnt the students using Facebook.............the problem is the teaching staff using Facebook when they should be preparing lessons/marking books/grading tests etc!"
Is there any way he can block certain sites on the server?
Can they just not stick a proxy server in and send all internet traffic via that. Censornet or such like should do the trick.
redirecting to the proxy is the best solution, but if it has to be done on the terminal server you could override the DNS entry for the site on the terminal server and block it that way. ( the /etc/hosts file or equivalent)
I also agree about the Proxy advice. The traffic will be filtered before it gets to the internet thus its more reliable. Is he / she clued up on Linux?
