    VMWare + Veeam is a nice combo and will serve you well (no pun intended!)
    ok maybe 2 hosts, will VM's split over them but spec'd up enough to be able to cope with all VM's running on the same host? and should i still include a standalone DC do you think for precaution?

    Yup sounds like a good plan, if you can get the physical DC it's nice to have something running outside the virtual bubble

    Yes it's good to have a DC on a seperate box. What I do tend to do is still stick the VMWare ESXi hypervisor on that box but just the free version and kept seperate from your VM cluster. It makes it much easier to transfer to other hardware in case of disaster recovery. If you have the money, I'd also spec it with enough hdd's so that you can run the core VM's to keep the business running in case the core stack failed. I'd also locate it in a different part of the building of possible.
