I've installed citrix in a box and setup a very basic Windows 7 Template image creating two VDI VMs from this.
What I would like to do now would be to setup a couple of boxes either thin client or fat running these VDIs and getting them to work with Smart board and CuBase now both are going to suffer latency issues CuBase being the worst has anyone tried this before and could recommend some thin client boxes to trial?

1st May 2012, 01:14 PM #2 You would want to go with Windows Embedded devices (over Linux) as the full HDX stack is only on Windows devices - I would suggest the 10zig guys (just go to their site and sign up for a trial device).
Honistly though I wouldn't expect great results from any Thin Client when it comes to extreemly latency sensitive things like working with IWBs/Music Production but hey can always give it a go!

1st May 2012, 03:00 PM #3 Well as it's only a Proof of Concept that will tell whether or not it's worth doing as for the latency of Cubase well some of our older machines basic sound cards have latency problems so we had to replace then (i'm not expecting great things).

Yeah I don't think VDI is going to be the solution for you - its great for IT classroom PCs but things like Music Editing as best kept to the local machine.

1st May 2012, 03:16 PM #5 Yeah I get that feeling too been the same for many years though. Suppose basic PC with decent sound card and VDI session as well would be the compromise until this can be dealt with. Although there are a few music editing packages on line which the latency can't be good for either?
