How to add clients to Altiris Deployment Solution

Hi,

I'm using the free Altiris license that comes with Thin Clients to manage them. However, I can't seem to find how to add the clients to the console. There doesn't seem to be an option in the console to add clients. I've had a look in the HP Quick Start as well. I've tried discovery, but the thin clients don't show up, or should I just be adding the server?

Is there any HP specific instructions out there. I had a look through some parts of the Altiris documentation, but it's very detailed and having trouble finding which bits are relevant to me (thin client).

There are some videos on the Altiris website that are specific to HP thin clients.

The way they work, though, is that they broadcast to find the server - check that your switches allow this. Alternatively, you will need to edit the config file on the clients so that it points to the Altiris DS server address - manually for every one!

Thanks Ric. I've had a search through Altiris' website (another one acquired by Symantec, I see), but not come across anything definitive. There are some documents which relate to HP thin clients, but no installation/user guide for HP, and certainly no videos.

The HP linux clients (t5135) come with altiris agent pre-installed, don't they?

@meastaugh1: I lied to you slightly... I was thinking of the Altiris Juice website. check out http://juice.altiris.com/hp - lots of resources.

Like I said before though, the clients should broadcast and connect to the DS automagically.

hmm, the server and client are connected to the same server (HP 4108). The multicast filtering is off. I'll have another look at the switch options, thanks.

You don't know how long it took to post that link!!!

You could ring HP support - IIRC you get telephone support on the setup so you may as well use it.
