22nd September 2011, 01:40 PM #2 flash support is awful in terminal services. Citrix does quite a good job of it.....

22nd September 2011, 01:45 PM #3 I thought that it would be at least watchable?
Is it just flash or how about wmv`s etc?
Oh dear....
Multimedia Redirection Improvements in Windows 7 and WS2008 R2
suggests that in WMP, even HD video will.... " the video content displayed on the screen will be seamless (as though it was rendered on the server)."

22nd September 2011, 01:47 PM #4 As said above Remote Desktop was never designed to play well with flash video - try playing WMV video and it should do brilliant because it redirects the video to the client which is then played localy.
To get good flash playback you should look at something that runs off of Citrix HDX (So XenDesktop/Kaviza VDI in a box) or even Microsoft RemoteFX.

Are these alternative solutions free?
Seeing this video with an Axel TC on youtube playing iplayer flawlessly I thought it would be watchable/possible using a powerful computer ....
Multi-Media on RDP Thin client - YouTube
This really has put a spanner in the works!

You should be seeing better performance than on the video, as we have done some major f/w improvements aimed specifically at Flash over RDP since
making the video.
Give us a call when you have a minute and we'll get to the bottom of what's happening, you certainly should not need to be considering adding
more layers of software, cost and complexity.....

22nd September 2011, 03:52 PM #7 Hi Matthew,
Just off home, thanks for this. Our new server arrived this afternoon. I will give "YouTube" streaming a fair chance on our new server.
Its not your Axel performance that im questioning/doubting above, its the whole RDP setup. We will see what we get tomorrow on the new server (time allowing)
Thanks Matthew

23rd September 2011, 09:01 AM #8 New DELL Server install...
Do you guys install the "Dell Installation DVD" first or do a complete vanilla setup from the M$ os disk?
We have 3 x SATA 150g in Raid3 - Do I create a 60gig partition for the OS and then leave the rest for storage? Or all one big partition?
