    Virtual Hardware Suppliers

Has anyone got any recommendations for Virtual Server hardware suppliers? We have got a Dell partner coming in to look but we want to get ideas from others as well. We are leaning towards VMWare so that might make a difference.

On the South coast, prefer if it was companies people have dealt with so know what they are like rather than just heard of.

We just bought a load of Dell R300's direct with 16gb of Ram and installed Hyper-V on them.

It was all relatively easy to do in the end, just make sure you enabled virtualization in the bios settings.

Millgate do a lot of HP stuff (as well as Dell etc etc), that's where we bought the hardware from for our virtual servers. @Millgate

I'm all HP here for my virtual hosts 3 hosts with 64gb ram in each and also an MSA2012FC + enclosure.

Not sure what part of the coast you are but i'm over towards horsham if you want to come and look at it.

We got both our HP DL165s from our usual HP supplier - there’s no need to go to anyone who specialises in Virtualisation unless you need support/setup services.

I think we may well get some sort of support service but mainly just getting suppliers in to have a look & see what they recommend.

Hehe, does virtual hardware even exist? I think you'd get better results with physical servers.

Dell all the way here and very satisfied so far.

Pair of (soon to be three I hope) the following:

    Dell R710
    2x E5620 @ 2.4Ghz / 12MB
    48GB RAM DDR3
    Redundant PSUs
    iDRAC 6 Enterprise card (awesome)
    4-port Gig NIC built-in
    Additional 4-port Gig NIC
    DVD drive
1GB SD card for booting ESXi
Dell Rapid Rails (or whatever they're calling them now - I love these things)
    3Yr NBD Warranty

    Under 3.5k

Get the Dell customised ESXi ISO and you're up and running pretty quickly.

Just realised I hadn't read your post very well, sorry! I bought the above spec through CCS Media who are absolutely excellent folks and many others here will agree. You get very personal service from them but they're a big company - I think if you go to Dell Education now you will actually end up talking to CCS anyway as they've partnered with them. PM me if you want details for our account manager.

I bought VMware/Veeam licences through WTL plc and Andy Paton came in to assist with our install. Very nice bloke and offered us excellent pricing.

    Cheers,
    Chris
