Thin clients - Big delay
Hello, I'm new in thin clients and I face a problem. In my faculty we have a sun server and 2 labs with 10 thin clients in each one. Each lab has it's own switch(10/100Mbps), these switches are connected to a router and this router is connected to the sun server. The connection between the router and the server is 1Gbit and the distance is 80metres. The problem is the big delay that is created when we try to run Matlab or Netbeans in each lab simultaneously. If we change the switches to 1Gibt, will the delay be decreased? Or it is just a problem with the configuration of the server? Would a load-balancing program be useful? The network structure cannot be changed. Another problem is that sometimes the keyboards don't respond when we write. Thank you

According to the Matlab site, the minimum spec for running a single copy of Matlab would be 1GB of RAM with 2GB recommended. So, to run 20 clients you would need at least 20GB RAM - the server you have only supports upto 16GB so there is your first problem.
That server appears to be at least 3 years old, possibly 5 years old. I would say that it is time to upgrade to something new - preferably I would suggest changing to having 2 servers with the sun ray software doing load balancing between the 2.

Thank you for your help, we must purchase for sure at least 4GB memory. There is no possibility to buy a new server, I should try to find other software such as Matlab and Netbeans. Thanks a lot.
