Question Printers and Thin Clients = Chaos

    Hi all

im really struggling getting any printer to work on a thin over citrix. no matter what i do it wont reconise the printer in a session. we have used different models of printer all with usb connection but have all failed

Just wondered if anyone has any tips on helping me install printers

Oh but when i connect into my sytem from outside the network and i have a printer plugged into my laptop at home the session finds my printer ok so how come the thin client cant find the printer??

do i have to install the driver somewhere??as ive been using the hp drivers that came with the terminal

    hope someone can help thank

Our Citrix system was setup 5 years ago - but at that time we had to setup network printers only - as locally connected printers was a no no. (shame the IT Co-Ord spent £100 extra on the bigger Wyse terminals with printer ports - oops!)

I'm sure Ric_ or the other TS guys will tell you it's not a problem now. Dunno if that's good news or bad!

Printing - thing of the past innit?!?

    <edit>

The driver has to be installed onto the TS doesn't it? Either that or use the love it or hate it HP universal Printer Driver

Client printers are a pain. The driver does have to be installed on the TS.

The best option is to use networked printers, all our ITSutes have network HP printers, the login script assigns the printer according the to client machine name.

    Thumbs up

thanks for getting back to me

we had citrix about 12 months ago, we initilaly had problems due to the printers not been turned on on the citrix console and we have corrected that!

we have all networked printers where possible and they work great!!

we have hp compac t5000 thin clients and there are several places where we cand upgrade the capacity anymore and they want a printer installed. The thinclient comes with printer drivers installed so in theory we assign the drivers on the thinclient in kiosk mode!but this does work

so where abouts do i have to install the drivers and how to i assign the drivers to the printer?

What you are probably missing is the printer drivers in your Citrix Farm. You need to add your print server(s) into the relevant section of the Presentation Server Console. You should also tell the servers to synchronise printer drivers automagically between each other (this saves hassle later).

You may find you need to install the drivers for ALL the printers on one of the servers so that your farm becomes aware of the different printers and drivers.

If you then mosey on over to the wiki you will find a script at http://edugeek.net/wiki/index.php/Sc...ed_on_Location that nicely handles printer addition in a thin client environment... can't imagine who wrote that
