Sun Ray
Hi,
After seeing the Sun Ray system at the edugeek conf last week we're interested in buying into the system. Initially it would be just for the admin systems (so around 30) but then possibly extending further.
I've got a rep from Sun calling me tomorrow but would like to know what other people experiences of the Sun Ray are. Also how people found the costs involved as we'd be wanting to make use of the smart card facility on the Sun Ray clients.
Any recommended resellers would be good and if anyone has the contact details for the guy from Cutters would be great.
Thanks, Dan.

Andy is linescanner on EduGeek and I have pointed him to the thread.
There is a large initial cost (though it still worked out cheaper than kitting out 3 rooms, even after CALs) and a goodly amount of planning to make sure you are getting what you truly want, but most Sun Partners as damned good at getting it right.

I investigated Sun stuff and found it to be superb - but sadly outside our school's budget at the moment.
We were working with European Electronique, who I believe are partnered with Sun in some way or other (I don't know the exact title of the relationship, as every company seems to have 2 dozen titles for it...)

Just as a note.
Sun are running Matching Grant at the moment and that will run until 20th Dec 2007.
The programme is buy 1 get 1 free which will allow you to deploy a good system at a fraction of the cost.
We work with European Electronique and have deployed most of their Sun Ray and SGD installs over the summer period.

It looks as if it going to be on the 8th of November.
If anyone is interested please drop me a line.

I wasn't at the conference, so I didn't see Sun Ray working. Is there a good website that demonstrates it, or anyone in Cumbria who could demo it?

Stewart,
where abouts in Cumbria are you ?
I think the nearest I have to you is Rochdale (still a bit of a trek)

I'm in the north lakes, so Scotland is closer than Rochdale, even if Lisa Stansfield is there!
What are the costs involved Linescanner, can you PM me and give me a ballpark figure?

Give me a call on

It is difficult to give a ballpark figure without knowing what you want to achieve

Andy
Some reason my sending a PM is not working

Re: Sun Ray
Did you also look at NComputing as a low cost alternative ?
