    SmartBoards and Citrix Vdiab

    Morning all,

I have problems, many problems... but the one I wish to ask is about Smartboards and Citrix VDI in a box.

Let me give you some background information, we are running our 'thinclients' on old machines, with a windows 7 thin base, using a thinkiosk software to stop proccesses and point the user to the Vdiab login screen, for them to grab a cirtual machine.

We want to do this for the teacher machines also, we have managed this with computers attached to starboards because the driver can be 'split up' and some placed on the thinclient and some placed on the virtual machine.

However with smartboard software and drivers this does not work, I have tried the following alternatives (VM = Virtual Machine // TC = ThinClient), also when I mention 'write' and 'touch', write is the ability to pick up a pen and write in the box that appears. Touch is the ability to select icons and folders through touch.

    VM - Software
    TC - Drivers
Conclusion - Write feature works perfectly, however no notebook 'touch' sidebar or calabrate feature on VM due to no drivers.

    VM - Software & Drivers
    TC - Drivers
Conclusion - Write feature works perfectly, notebook 'touch' sidebar and calabration present however side bar and touch does not work.

    VM - Software & Drivers
    TC - Nothing
Conclusion - Write feature works perfectly, notebook 'touch' sidebar and calabration present however side bar and touch does not work.

At no point can we get the side bar and the 'touch' to work. However the 'write' side of things always works.

I have used the search feature on edugeek, and the only post I could pull up was about 3 years old explaining that smart do not have the correct drivers for virtual. Is this still the case, can anyone shed light on any of this

    Thanks!

    Ryan

Have you tried running the Smartboard drivers on the thin client and notebook software on the VM?

Oh sorry missed that. For calibrate I have seen someone use some software (cant remember what) that you run an app on the VDI and it will go back to the thin client and run it on that. Also some software you run on the thinclient that will launch the calibration using the hotkeys. That could sort the calibration.

Thanks, the problem is when the drivers aren't on the virtual machine the little 'bar' doesn't display... (This one, sorry picture tiny) SMART+Board+floating+tools.jpg

    Hi Paul,

We have not managed to get this fixed at all, I have spoken to smartboard directly and they say they they do not support virtual at all... strange.

However I have got in contact with 10zig thin client, and they say that they have got other schools working with smartboards, so we have got a few test boxes coming from them, and if they do work we can dissect their windows imbedded and see what is different to ours.

Ill post results when I know

    Ryan
