How big is the disk image? Is it in 2GB chunks? Linux dislikes the VMWare images if they are bigger than 2GB files.

Hmm yes it will be bigger than 2gb I suppose but then images I've created on the linux vmware box I haven't used 2gb chunks and they all work.

Any chance of installing VMServer on another Windows machine and copy the image to there and see if it runs on that one just to eliminate any problem with the image.

Hi Si,
That was going to be my next port of call tomorrow.
As I need to move the image of that box to install my wireless management software on the server and this virtual image of my intranet server is the only thing left to move.
Cheers,
Ben
You need to edit various settings in your .vmx file for the virtual server image, I have had to do this for moving servers in the other direction, Linux to windows. I found this link useful http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tip/15407.html

Thanks Pete but that doesn't help me the virtual machine doesn't even start up after moving the image.

Just an update on this.
I did a hot clone of a windows 2003 server yesterday.
On my windows machine the image loads up and runs perfectly, copied it to my ubuntu linux box and no joy.
This is really frustrating.
