Dorset Schools - Updata / DCC or other ?
Hi there
DCC secondary schools are now faced with a choice of remaining with DCC (DPSN Dorset Public Sector Network using KCom as the supplier) or moving to an independent supplier.
Up until now, DCC used Updata to provide service. Updata are going it alone and have written to schools with a more competitively priced offering.
Anybody out there have any thoughts on this ? Or already made the decision to go with DPSN / Updata / other ?
Would be interested to hear...
Mike

I have spoken to my schools today and DCC have said they are committed now so we cant get out of it. They also said that updata didnt get the contract because DCC are looking to integrate all services such as fire and ambulance etc and updata were not big enough to support such a thing. Think it is all flannel now but probably too late for me

That's the story I got. Our school currently on 20Mb copper link. We want to go fibre but DCC are saying that "construction costs" (i.e. digging up roads) could cost up to £30k if we do this under DPSN ! What appeals about the Updata offering is that they are waiving ALL installation costs. So we could go fibre for less than the cost of copper from DCC...tempting. I'm trying to get a handle on what services this might affect though - and DCC talk about other costs that may be incurred if we don't migrate to DPSN...
Cheers
