21st October 2011, 02:31 PM #1 Does your school use Twitter?
After looking at a post by Elsiegee40 on the Snow Days thread she says that her school uses their Twitter feed (amongst other methods) to let parents know about school closures and it made me curious. How many of you out there have school Twitter accounts, and do they get used regularly?

21st October 2011, 03:00 PM #2 Our website tweets every news story we post automatically. News stories go out about 2-3 times a week, and those are the majority of what's on there - we don't update it manually very much.

21st October 2011, 03:03 PM #3 Our HT 'came up' with the idea of using Twitter a while ago - the IT Department response was - Who is going to look after it? Are you aware that the social networking policy currently blocks twitter access in school? and most of all......what is the objective of using twitter?
Easy to say that any intrest has faded away to none since then.

21st October 2011, 03:08 PM #4 Use it here. Works great when pupils are on school trips as a way to share what is happening and to inform of any travel delays etc. We had great feedback from parents. Front office update via a twitter client and the lead teacher on a trip just has the account linked to their mobile and posts via SMS or Twitter App if available.

21st October 2011, 03:09 PM #5 It's something we've just started using in conjunction with the launch of our new website.
It is very early days, but I'm updating it maybe 3 or 4 times a week currently, but I hope to expand that in the future (to incorporate things like snow days for example) to increase the number of ways we communicate with our parents (at this point it is the only form of electronic communcation we have, as we do not have the ability to use a package to do email/text messaging).

21st October 2011, 03:43 PM #12 As DB says we do have a public twitter feed and the link to it is on our website. Some parents love it. It is isn't used often, just to flag up important stuff like the school having to close early (or not open at all) and match cancellations... that sort of things.
We don't have a huge number of followers, because it is public. However, reaction from parents is such that quite a number of them do use it, especially when the weather is bad!
It's only one of the ways we try to make sure messages get through!

Don't use it currently and probably won't. All announcements are added to the website, and anything late in the day we text to parents.
