We use it for service status updates, considering we have a 120 sites and soem 4000 staff we manage its there and people can get texts with the update.

I've set up an account but don't use it too frequently currently.

When we launch our new website we will tie it in for news updates etc.

Sorry if this appears to hijack the original intention of this poll.
We've been circling Twitter warily recently, debating if the school should have an account. If you have gone down this route for your school, did you poll your parents first to find out how popular it was amongst them, if it was widely used? How do you use your Twitter account? What do you see as the value of having such an account? Did the push for a Twitter account come from above (Head of department/SLT) or was it something you suggested?

That's the same for us, its registered and once the new site has been built and finished off (its probably about 60% done now) it will get integrated with the Twitter so people can view it / follow it if they like. I find our SLT are very non-IT, they got lost explaining what a Bitlet was in ePortal and we have used it for over 5 years now and Bitlets have been in it for at least 9 years..... So they were completely lost at Widgets and Gadgets on your dashboard!

I've used a module from yootheme on one site and it works well, and lets you filter to an account, and even a hashtag if you want. On a newer implementation yootheme is now called widgetkit, and that one seems even better, but i've not tested it out yet.
