On 2.3.3 on hero now, cant believe how much faster and how much more battery life i'm getting out of the old hero.

    Cyanogen all the way.

I need a change of vote.

(FYI: asus eee pcs run the x86 android 2.2 port nicely!)

It is also a contraction of the word "Android".

Similar to the iPhone contraction of "iPee"

You might want to take a look at the 0.2 decrossed ROM for the San Fran prepared by the Rom master, Sebastian.
[ROM] 26/Jan r0.2: de-crossed (cheque) ROM for ZTE Blade / Orange San Francisco [froyo] [OLED+TFT] - Android @ MoDaCo

I tried the Cyanogen RC ROM on the SanFran, but it was very unreliable. It crashed the phone after every call!

The 0.2 decrossed ROM (link above) has been brilliant on my SanFran - no patches needed to fix the wifi bug and the battery life is much better.
