Robocopy syntax

Hi Guys im new to this forum so a quick hello:)

Basically im looking for a quick command line for robocopy to copy files from NAS storage (source) to a western general nas box (destination) for a quick backup. The destination already has folders on it that i started copying using xcopy this had taken 5 days then failed so i don't want to have to recopy these and start again. So basically i want to copy all folders in the source directory including all subfolders to the destination directory but only to copy folders that are not already there. I had tired richcopy but this was taken far to long and xcopy seemed to be much faster although didn't have the same fault tolerance. There is a lot of data to be copied as quickly as possible , about 1.6TB so restart/recovery is a must.

Thanks for the prompt reply , I had tired the GUI before and basically when i put in source , destination and correct parameters and hit copy nothing happend , I had tried this several times hence the reason i would like to try it from the command line cheers.

Hi Guys thanks for all your replys , Im actually looking for someone to show me how they would write the xcopy command line with the correct syntax and parameters . Thats will be 100 correct and tested. I just want to copy and paste it in to the cmd.exe and run it . Cheers.
ROBOCOPY \\Server1\nas1 \\Server2\backup /S /E /Z ....would this work ? copy everthing in source that is not in destination including all sub folders and files. Cheers.

Just wondering , if I restart xcopy after there was a network outage to the destination will it start from where it let off ??

AFAIK xcopy does not have this facility, however I think robocopy does.

I haven't looked to see if xcopy has been updated in a goodly number of years, so this could be wildly inaccurate.

That looks OK, but you might want to look at these switches too...

Yes that would appear to what you want. :)

Edit: though those switches above would be handy :p

We use:

robocopy \\server\share \\backup\share\ /MIR /R:00 /W:00 /XD *AppData* /COPY:dT

I use the /XD *AppData tag to prevent copying of the AppData folder, as this brought the backup times up to 18 hours or so due to its mass of small files. /MIR removes deleted files, /R:00 is number of retries, /W:00 is wait time between retries. /COPY:dT sets robocopy to copy Data and Timestamps, can't use DAT as our Linux NAS won't copy NTFS flags.

This has worked pretty well for us, completes in decent time too (150GB data).
