Thats if no one beats me to it by then.
James.
have a look at admodify.net to assist you with any bulk changes you want to make.
Glad you like my site. :)
I wrote an Excel spreadsheet app a few years ago that allows you to bulk load user accounts - it can create work areas and configure NTFS permissions:
WiseSoft - Account Management. Bulk Create User Accounts with Excel Spreadsheet.
For updating existing user accounts you might find my new Bulk AD Users application useful:
WiseSoft Bulk AD Users - Beta Testing!
I do these in Excel as well. It's not very sexy, but seeing as the names come out of SIMS as CSV and need a bit of manual checking over (wacky names with apostrophes, spaces, ridiculously long double-barrellers etc.) it's a good fit.
The final columns in the script build commandlines for pasting into a big batch file. I think mine relies on "dsadd" and then I run some scripts which quickly set all the ACLs (search the forums for "subinacl") and set up the shares ("rmtshare")
All microsoft tools, but annoyingly none of them come with XP: they're available in adminpak.msi or the resource kit though.
At some point I will move everything to powershell... it's growing on me slowly! Nice and easy to code GUI tools in it as well :)
Has anyone used the Account Management spreadsheet with server 2008?
I'm using an XP SP3 client with Office 2003 and server 2008, when I run the create users command it seems to take a very long time (30+ seconds) to create users even though i'm only testing it with three user accounts. I only have basic options set so it should just create the user and home folder then set permissions nothing else is set.
Should it take this long?
Thanks.
EDIT
Forgot to register the ADsSecurity.dll file, ooops
Even though I select the group that I want the users to be a member of on the add users page it doesn't add them, can anyone help with this?
Active User Manager is what I use.
Once you setup the basics it is such a fantastic tool and its FREE :D
@ siuko - thanks for that i'll take a look. Can I just ask a couple of questions before reading up and downloading/installing.
1. Where do you install it, on a server or client?
2. Does it support Server 2008?
3. Does it require and extra software e.g java/.NET on the sever?
Cheers.
1. Install and run from server.
2. It says Windows 2000 and 2003 - so I dont know about 2008 (Just try it and see maybe...)
3. Dont think it requires anything else - not that I remember (maybe the VB or C redistributable?)
From what I remember its Free and easy to setup so no harm trying it.
I emailed the site and they replied saying that they hadn't tested it themselves but they were aware of sites using it with 2008.
I use Bulk users by wisesoft and it works on 2008

I have just started introducing teachers to the passwword manager which is great as they can at least reset passwords
and in the primary part of the federation we have flouser manager but this has cost and been a waste of money for one school as it does not work with 2008.
Flo Computer Services - Flo User Manager 3
I will be possibly chaning them all to wisesoft shortly.....
