Script to add computers to AD like RIS

hi all,

the script needs to add the computer to ad based on the logged on (authenticated) username, but increment it every time

i have tried with adodb recordsets but am unable to get the computernames that match the looged on user.

any ideas?

I'd user autoit with netdom..

autoit will grab the username then i'd get it to prompt for the next number. Or you could make it write to a share and keep counting up from a txt file somewhere. Prolly be quicker to prompt for a number and press OK.. it will then go thru and run netdom to join domain and rename the machine name.

I've done it that way in the past.

Oh if your ghosting, ensure you newsid first :)

thanks for the reply, but i will be using just the one script that
writes a joindomain.vbs to the c: drive,
puts in an auto logon to the registry,
a runonce for the joindomain.vbs ,
removes the machine from the domain and reboots.
the pc then auto logs on
runs the joindomain.vbs (which deletes itself!)
and then joins the domain.

this bit already works.

the thing is that the 120 laptops need renaming at the same time and i wanted to automate that bit too.
