Re: FITS Compliant Web Based Helpdesk - ** RELEASED **

Another feature packed release (0.9.4b) today that contains the following:

1 - Moved away from popup alert messages to inline html ones

2 - Managers / Admins now have the ability to view / add / update tasks of thier immeadiate staff

3 - Inline task descriptions have now been added, simply click on the task subject and the full description will appear underneath.

    4 - Fully tested on IE6, IE7, FireFox, Opera

No database changes have been made so to upgrade it is a case of backup your current site, install this update into the same location as the old one, copy over you comon.asp file from the incs folder to the new one and away you go.

As usual please provide feedback on this release, the above changes have been requested by users and it is you that contiunes to drive the development of this software.

I like the look of this helpdesk, looks very 'friendly' to use. If I didn't already have my own PHP based helpdesk, I'd probably adopt it.

Just one thing, PDF'ing knowledge base articles doen't appear to work. Gives me a Internal Server Error 500 in IE6.

I'm the same as maniac right now. Looks extremely well made and easy to use, and if we didn't already have a helpdesk in place I'd be installing it now.

Might grab a copy and see if I can switch over to it at some point

This looks great, but am I right in thinking it will only work with IIS6?

I have no experience with .asp, or attempting to get it to run on open source products.

On another note, can you search the requests for key words?

    Cheers

It is IIS only, but shouldn't be IIS6 only, as ASP is a relatively old tech now so should work all the way back to IIS4 really.

Re: FITS Compliant Web Based Helpdesk - ** RELEASED **

localzuk is correct as it will work on any IIS enabled server, this has been one of the reasons for using classic ASP.

It is very easy to install, simply upload the site, create the database, change a few options in the common.asp file and away you go.

@maniac: The demo site is a copy of the development version which will be updated nightly, there have been some changes to the PDF generation section of the KB. I would check back in a day or two and you should find it working again.

Hi, if its any help I downloaded my little helpdesk Saturday morning, followed by II6, mysql, the mysql front end manager ( forget what its called) and had the thing up and running by Sunday night, the only spot of bother i ran into was not having the Parent Paths enabled which stops you getting access to the admin console.

is it possible not to have a logon account and just have a desktop short cut so the staff can just log the fault with their Name and Room number ?

Like no authentication or logon to helpdesk needed it's open to all staff..

The user just clicks a link on the desktop... clicks a larger SUBMIT HELP REQUEST and then it has the USER name and Room on top ?

If you set the helpdesk to use NTLM for logins the login forms will be removed and user accounts auto created, from an end user perspective they never have tologin in just open the helpdesk and submit a request. As thier accounts are auto created for them so is thier email addresses all they would need to supply is the room number which you could specify as an additional required field on the form.

This is on the way and has been asked for by a number of users and should be in v0.9.6b due end of november start of december 07
