    Setting Default Audio playback device

    Hi everyone.

The music Dept. has just bought some M-Audio Fast Track USB recording devices.

When the are plugged in, the default Audio Playback device changes from the internal sound card to the Fast Track device.

Is there a script, or does anyone know how to change it when students don't have access to the control panel?

    Maybe a registry setting?

Im sure this an be done... I just dont know how.

    Many thanks

    James

There is an autoit file attached to this post that should work with Windows 7/Vista, it probably works with XP as well if you still have that.

in XP you can use reg files but be careful to only apply them to computers of the same type otherwise it could kill sound support

How to set default audio device programmaticaly in C# on Windows Vista
SYNACK, thanks for this but the file isnt there. Does any one have a script that will work.

I have created a .reg file, which works but the sound still comes out of the wrong device until I go into the sounds and Audio devices in the control panel. Then the computer seems to refresh itself and the sound comes out of the correct device.

I am a complete novice at scripting but i'm sure someone out there must know how to do this with something I can run at Log on.

    Thanks

    James
